Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN) is a fund created by the Indian government to improve telecom connectivity in rural areas.
It replaces the earlier Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF).
USOF is a pool of funds generated from telecom companies. This is generated by a 5 per cent Universal Service Levy charged upon all the telecom fund operators on their Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR).
DBN funds will provide telecom services in underserved areas, including villages, and to specific groups like women and those with disabilities.
